That's right, after an 11 year hiatus, Spirit of South Carolina Volunteers are coming together again around our Schooner. Thanks to Reg Brown for helping jumpstart the effort with some great advice and sharing the old Volunteer Email Roster. We did an email Invitation blast to reconnect everyone from Old Salts to apprentices. Added to that, Mate, Charley Porzelt's excellent facebook posting, and sharing it on a Mount Pleasant neighborhood website netted over 25 immediate responses for our first Volunteer orientations this past Saturday and Monday.
Thanks to Sarah Piwinski and Dewey Teske for their insights and sharing the history of the excellent volunteer program that supported Spirit of South Carolina in her early years. We're now brushing off and refitting a number of tried and tested policies, procedures, templates, and training checklists that helped the first Volunteer Program. The goal is to regain the structure, momentum and level of participation experienced from that time, to support Spirit of South Carolina as we rebuild to sustain her in her continuing mission.
If you're reading this, and haven't already responded to a Volunteer invite, please visit the Spirit of South Carolina Website (link is in the green column at right) and find our Volunteers Page. Give us your contact information and we'll set up a visit and orientation, or refresher if you've walked her decks before. It's gonna be fun.
